- Don't wear new shoes with leather soles on a rainy day
When you have a new pair of shoes with leather soles you shouldn't wear them when it's raining. Leather soles that have been used in dry weather for a while will reject moistness better.
- Preparing leather soles
Use flax oil on leather soles that are creaking. On leather soles that let water trhough you should try turpentine.
- Caster oil for patent shoes
When you clean your patent shoes wit caster oil they won't get pleats from walking.
- Smearing a zipper
When a zipper won't want to open rub a lead pencil over it a few times. Then it'll mostly "work" again.
- Glycerine for binoculars
Many people who have to wear binoculars don't know this: even with big variations in temperature your binoculars won't get covered with damp when you rub them with glycerine frequently and polish them with a leather cloth.
- Alcohol on tight shoes
A shoe that pinches will stop giving you pains when you pour a little glass of alcohol in it. Spread the alcohol evenly and wear the shoe immediately - then the leather will be weak. Of cours you'll have to use plain alcohol - no advokaat.
- Shoeshine and window cleaner
Try your window cleaner on your leather shoes - the result will surprise you
